Klarrio has named Werner Vermeylen as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
Vermeylen will oversee Klarrio’s global cybersecurity program, spanning both internal operations and external threats across its offices in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, and the United States. He will also lead the development and execution of Klarrio’s cybersecurity strategy, including security governance, risk management, policies and standards, threat prevention and detection, incident response, and the protection of critical data.
Prior to his promotion, Vermeylen served as R&D Director at Klarrio for more than three years. Before that, he worked for nearly nine years as a software architect at Verizon, serving the last five years of his tenure there as Team Lead and Software Architect for Global Network and Technology.
Vermeylen received his official CISO certification from the Data Protection Institute on June 23. His final project for the Institute was a case study on building a security operating model for a cloud-native engineering organization that aligns perfectly well with Klarrio’s long-range planning goals.
“Creating a designated CISO position for Klarrio is another step forward in our commitment to Security by Design,” said Kurt Jonckheer, Klarrio CEO. “By aligning the CISO function with our DPO and COO’s internal IT and tooling activities, Werner will play a major role in eliminating the silos that often separate security priorities from other data-engineering tasks,” he added.
Werner Vermeylen is a member of Belgium’s Cyber Security Coalition, and he holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Computer Science.
